Tando - heart shaped printer tray

Now - just because something starts out life with a purpose - does not mean that it will end up being used for that.

You know me - never do what I am told.

This is one of the layers from a Tando printer's tray kit.

I wanted to experiment with some of the new Decoupatch papers - and remind myself how their glue behaved against the normal PVA - so I had the daft idea of wrapping the lattice work in strips of the papers.  Just as well I like being mucky - you should have seen the mess I got myself into.

I wanted to make a hanger with all sorts of wires wrapped and beads and dangle bits

The centre of the flowers are the new sparkly 'fruit pastilles' looking things - they look really yummie - the paper flowers are the Dove Craft little boxed ones - and the rest is bits and bobs out of my beads tray

New dog coat

What a beautiful day today - let's hope it carries on forever ;-)

Someone gifted me a couple of sacks of unused yarns - scraps, half balls, bit of left overs.  And in among it all there was a couple of sleeves that had obviously been knitted for a jumper - and never had the rest done.

so - what do you do with an odd knitted sleeve  (or 2)

You add a button - and a belly band

and BINGO

Baby's got a brand new coat

Saturday Journal page

It's Saturday - and I am having a go a bash at Zen tangles for my journal page.  I have a feeling  that it won't be finished today - but it's great fun.

I am getting more confident the more I do and I have just added all the loopy lines.

Also in the pipeline - a crochet kit for all of you who are asking for more crochet.

This is the prototype - it's a heart hanger with a bit of flower decoration.  Just got to make sure the pattern has no missed bits it ;-) - should be ready for next weekend.

Also - I concocted this - had it in my head for ages

It is knitted - building on the colour change work we have been doing - and a new technique to get the tops matching.  Not decided if it will be a cushion or a hanger yet - still working on the pattern.

new illustrator - Dave Livingstone

We have a new  artist - Dave Livingstone - with us for the next month.  He has a very 'illustrator' type style of working that I like very much.

He is up for taking commissions more than selling the pictures that he has left with me - so drop in for a look and pick up his details.

New cushion knitting pattern

Don't talk to me about computers - hate them!!!!  ;-)

New knitting pattern for you - it's called 'Ribbon Stitch'

A dead simple introduction to colour work - it's only 2 row of knit and 1 row purl - if only computers were this simple!

Pattern to sown load from the shop and on kindle

new tablet for kitten

I did my bit for the British economy yesterday - I went and bought a new tablet computer.  It's all so that we can take payment by card really.

I spent a couple of days on the phone last week getting more and more confused - then I found a broker - rather like an insurance broker - that could look at everyone in the market and all the different systems.  he reckoned that it would cost me AT LEAST £30 A MONTH to have a terminal on the phone line - and he suggested that I had a tablet computer - bought a device and downloaded an app - all of which would be considerable cheaper and would justify itself in about 8 months - and if I didn't take payments - there would be no ongoing charges.  All I have to do now is get to grips with this **** new gadget.

Just remember when you use a dabit card in a small shop - it costs them a lot of money to actually get the cash.

Izzy Knits - market stall

Hi all - today sees the first day of the market stall opening.

It's an off shoot of the shop - run by Izzy - all natural pure 100% British wool - most of it from local sheep and local mills.

It's going to be a glorious day - so pop over and say 'Hi' to Izzy (she's a bit hyper ;-)

I shall loose half a stone running up and down between the shop and stall today.

open Good Friday

I don't know about you - but Easter has been so long coming that I had forgotten about it!

I am open - no one else is - so I am 'everything out' spread down the alley and cleaning the corners out!

Saturday Journaling again

I have been so looking forward to today - and another page of my journal.  I have been so good and not fiddled during the week even though I wanted to.

I treated myself to a new stamp - I have wanted the 'Crowned Bunnies' from Crafty Individuals for age and ages but never got round to it.  I totally adore their stamps - would love to stock them in the shop but I am not sure how they would go down.

This page is called 'Hare today - - gone tomorrow'

Brayered background with Jenni Bowlin inks Seed Packet and Soap Powder - stamped tree line (crafty Individuals stamp as well) in Spice Tin - white acrylic paint fence - clouds sponged through sequin waste with white paint - bits of grass and flowers overstamped in the same colour - rabbits heat embossed with old copper on a dark blue paper that has crowns on it.

Zutter Bind it All

I dusted off my trusty old Bind it All today.

My son has a load of 'Magic' playing cards that are no good for playing - but he wanted to 'something' with.

I made a load of little note books for him for his stall - I would have made loads more - but he has swiped my wire cutters!

Natural agates

We now have loads of really pretty agate beads in the shop.

When I thought about stocking jewellery making items I wanted to have something a bit different from the normal 'bog standard' trays of acrylic and plastic beads that you see everywhere.  I have a really good wholesaler for the finding, stringing and fittings bits (Beadtime - also known as Beadfairy - super quality and very reasonable prices - loads of choice and ideas) - but for the beads I have decided to buy mostly directly from the East - China - Singapore - etc. I did train as a jeweller after I left school and worked in  the trade for about 15 years - so I have the basic knowledge to find you something pretty and good value for money.

We have loads of really pretty beads - The chances of me actually getting them listed ion the website are slim - in fact I am seriously considering dropping the princesskitten website and just keeping the shop one - I just can't keep it up to date and the costs are going up so much to keep it running.

100% Cumbrian sheep wool

Izzy is expanding the wool side of the shop.  We met a chap at the Show who uses sheep fleeces that are very local to us - literally across the road - and the mill is only about 20 miles away.  So we are now going to add Bronte Glen knitting wool along with Herdy wool - along with hand knitted cushions - tea cosies - draught excluders - and pouffes like the one below - bargain at £55.00.

You will find Izzy in the market square every Saturday from Easter Saturday all through the summer selling her wares.  She is also in the shop 11.30am - 1.30pm (ish) during the week if you would like to place or collect an order.

Let's Journal

It is so long since I got any  REAL work done - crafting that is ;-) - I am going to take myself in hand with a firm foot and try to do a bit more hands on stuff.

The Stationary show a couple of doors down have started keeping a journal in the window - and he has inspired me to get mine out again.

My book is a very old accounts ledger that was my mums - so it's a bit different - touch on the small side - but - hey - it will make me work harder.

The challenge is - keep everything  flat.  I can add sheets of paper - ribbons etc - as long as it stays totally flat.  The means no layering - no embellishments - no 3D work - no gems - how am I going to cope!!! - on the allowed list - all my inks - pens - heat embossing - paint effects - distressing - stamping - glitter and glitter glue (phew!)

This has a Fireworks spritz background - gorgeous and sparkly - and a grungy atlas stamp.

I am going to make a real effort to do something every Saturday - so let's just hope.
