Saturday Journal

Yeah - Saturday again - the weeks are whizzing by - and the way the weather is behaving it's no wonder everyone is starting their winter crafting.

This first one is a practice for a card scene I have in mind.  It's ages since I inked scenery - and I wanted to practice to get an overview of what I  could do.

The next one - all I had in mind was that I was going to wipe all different colours of paint on the page to start.  You can't see - but there is metallic gold in the mix - and that led to the star theme.

popping out for a few days

I am just here to say I won't be here for a couple of days.  I have an exciting new project to work on in the shop and the blog is going to have to wait for a bit.  I am not planning a journal page on Saturday - I shall be busy through that too.

Mean while - I am being sooo god at getting organised - this is all my Posh Dog collar / lead storage.  The bottom 2 bins have different widths of interfacing - then there are bins for all the different fleece widths ready cut - and a tray for all 'hardware' type bits.  I have finished 3 more collars this morning but it will be next week before I can list them on the site

Big Ideas

I don't often knit a big dog - dog coat.  I don't get asked much really - I find them so difficult to handle and they take so long to do.  Now that Posh Dog is taking off I thought I had better have a couple to show  so I have made a small greyhound size - a large greyhound size - there are a couple of the 'weekender' jumpers that are larger sizes- they are much shorter in the body anyway.  I have also just picked up a pattern for a big baggy jumper type piece that would be great for older dogs that feel the chill in the house as well.

This is one pattern - it's lovely to knit (bar the size)  - there is extra shaping round the curve - and a dart through the middle.  This is chunky weight (2 x DK) on 5mm - I might try just 1 DK on 4mm and see how it works out.

This is gorgeous - but my goodness it's hard work!  I can't imagine having a dog this big - it's even too big to fit on my wooden dog model.

I have got a 'Joseph' jumper on the needles at the moment - 3 colour single line repeat like the one about - it's my favorite colour repeat pattern - in apple green - fondant pink and aqua blue - it's divine!  The I am going to have a go at my new pattern and see how it works.  I usually do one run of following the pattern to get the gist of it - after that - anything goes

My wonderful new planner

I lost my diary a few weeks ago - total nightmare for me - if I don't keep lists I am lost.  so I started looking around for something a bit more than just a diary to organize myself.  Bad time of year obviously - but needs must.  All the mid-term ones about were a bit small and plain - so I hunted about online - you-tube has loads of videos about planners and organizing - and I fell in love with the American style that has a double page spread calendar at the front of the month followed by a week-to-view breakdown..  I really lusted after an Inkwell Planner - but they are way expensive - plus huge import - and you can't get them mid year.

Then I found http://www.personal-planner.com/EN/ - and I was in love.  I got to choose the size - layout - cover - what they printed in it - the back pages - quotes - colours.  - and with none of the junk you usually get at the front.

So - here is mine
front cover
inside
 month view
 then weekly break down
I have to admit that I have re-bound my pages with a zutter 11/2" wire because I took an idea from Inkwell and made an extra blank file tab page to mark the months and so I can make extra notes for the months as I think of them

It has a matching little plastic ruler/divider and elastic band - and a clear pocket to store things in.  Mind you mine is so full already that it is just in the bag with my planner.  And the paper is decent quality too!

I love it so much that I have just ordered a notebook to match - and you get to choose all the different page styles you want inside.  The planner was just over 320 and the note book was about £12 - and you can have the planner start at which ever month you wish.

Absolutely no connection with the company - just thought I would pass it on.  The are on Facebook to.

Saturday Journal page

Thank goodness it's Saturday!!

I have had one of those weeks you know - what so you mean my weeks are always like that! - I am organized sometimes ;-)

I was supposed to have some work done on the flat - I was big and braved and phoned the man and got it all sorted - then when the fitter came - 'oh no love - can't do that!'.  What's the old saying - the man who says it can't be done should get out of the way of the woman half way through doing it -something like that.  well I am trying to unpick that muddle - then in the middle of the week we get a call from the land agents about the shop my son as been trying to get calling a site meeting to talk about his plans and ambitions.  That al went very well - so now we are looking for tradespeople and costings and it all has to be now.  I have told him - he has to stand on his own feet - I am too fragile to be taking on big projects.  I have given him lists of what ans who to talk to -  and I have to say the council have been hugely supportive.  I will let you know proper details as we progress - it's not quite a done deal - but it's as firm as it can be at this stage.

So - all-in-all - today's journal page needed to be simple - light and fresh - colourful and glitter - oh - there had to be glitter!

Along with my baby wipes - I love to use a credit card to apply paint.  You only need a tiny spot on the back of the card and it give you a lovely abstract 'flash' of paint.  That is how I created the bright background.

new site for you

Something I just love about the real crafters (as opposed to fine artists) out there - is the way to see the world slightly differently - and constantly challenge and awe us to what they see

This miniaturist is so amazing - and all the scenes are real - he actually creates them - no photoshop

- such imagination I can only dream of!

Saturday Journal page

It's an old idea - but a classic

2 Green paint background - stencilled with white - letters atamp (sorry this is not available in this country) - I drew the branch with Copics - the owls are an old stamp onto white card, coloured, and glued - one of my buttons for the pink owl - and the greeting is stamped on white card with the little individual letters stamps set.  I am going to add a bit more texture paste foliage round the edges- just got to wait for the first lot to set.  I really must get myself a decent foliage stencil ;-)

the hunt for a white pen

Now you all know that the mission (and I accepted it!) for the year was to find a reliable, good white pen that would highlight my Copic colouring - and doodle over mixed media without blotching, skipping, patching etc.  I have been struggling on with the Ranger inkssentials but it's pretty horrid - the first time a Ranger product has really let me down.

I have tried loads of white pens over the months - from all over the place - China and the USA included.  I have even tried white paint pens and - even nail painting pens.  I have tried pump action pens - gel pens - roller ball - fibre tip - anything I could find.  The only blank I have drawn is to get hold of a Sharpie white pen - I just can't get or import one from anywhere.  Very strange that one - but there you go.

Anyway - we have progress - and I think I have cracked it!!!

The winner - the Signo White gel roller ball pen - It's amazing.  Really wet and thick - you can gently tap it on for tiny spots and if you write over black it's smooth and consistent.  I just love it.

I have them in the shop and ON LINE HERE.

Try one - you won't go back.

Saturday Journal page

Here is my journal page for today

You can't see the dragonflies very well in the photo - they are much stronger in real life.  If you ever waht to have a look at my journal in the shop - just ask - it's on my desk to browse through.

Lovin' the stamping on tissue to add over the background - it's a brilliant technique.
